Why get the bundle
- Equivalent fractions need repeated attention. Color-by-code, bingo and cards give children variety.
The problem
2/7 = ?/56, and they add 49 to the top
Equivalent fractions look different and mean the same. Children who add instead of multiply change the value.
Adding the same number
To go from 2/7 to ?/56, a child adds 49 to the top. Adding changes the value; multiplying keeps it.
Changing only the bottom
7 to 56 is times 8. The top must be times 8 too, or the fraction has changed.
Finding the multiplier
The key question is what times 7 makes 56. Few children think to ask it.
Each question gives a fraction with a missing number. Children find what the bottom was multiplied by and do the same to the top.

Find an equivalent fraction
Multiply top and bottom by the same number.
- 2 × 8 = 16, so 2/7 = 16/56
- 8 × 4 = 32, so 8/9 = 32/36
- 4 × 2 = 8, so 4/9 = 8/18
- 4 × 2 = 8, so 4/5 = 8/10
- 3 × 5 = 15, so 3/4 = 15/20
- 5 × 3 = 15, so 5/8 = 15/24
- 4 × 6 = 24, so 4/11 = 24/66
